Imaging

The VRC is happy to create or source digital images for your teaching and research! Instructors and students in the Humanities may use the order forms below. All digital images and film clips are delivered through the LUNA database.

Digitization Lab

The VRC’s full Digitization Lab will be closed to student and instructor users during Autumn 2021.

However, we are making a number reservations available for a private office in the VRC that contains a variety of lab equipment and software for a variety of projects, including: a large format-flatbed scanner, a DVD drive, a digital drawing tablet, Adobe Creative Cloud apps, Wondershare software for making film clips and stills, and more. and resources are open for use by Humanities students and instructors by appointment only.

Camera Lending

The VRC makes several cameras including 4 DSLRs and 1 document camera available to Art History instructors and students via short-term loan. For more information, please read about the VRC’s Camera Lending Program, the available equipment and our policies.

Remote Access to Adobe Creative Cloud

The VRC maintains a limited number of remote student licenses to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, including Photoshop. To request temporary access to a license, please complete the ARTH & UAD Adobe Check-Out form


When VRC staff receive the completed form, we will coordinate with our colleagues in IT Services to turn on your access to Adobe. Requests will be processed Monday–Friday between 9am and 5pm. Requests received in the evenings or weekends will be processed the next business day. We will make every effort to fulfill requests as noted on the form. If there is high demand for licenses, we may need to write to you to adjust the length of the temporary license access.

Please email visualresources@uchicago.edu if you are unable to find images or would like further assistance in finding sources. The VRC can inquire with museums, artists, and galleries for images held in their collections on your behalf.

The VRC can help instruct students in searching for images through individual reference help or classroom instructional sessions. Please see the Customized Instructional Sessions and Workshops page for details on what the VRC can offer.
